Black Market is a Berlin based, artists-run exhibition platform that generates a new way to exhibit art and to create attention for the content, not the form. Starting out as a satellite exhibition during the Stockholm art fair in 2013, Black Market has grown fast and is now presenting the 7th group show exhibition of contemporary art.
Black Market is not a gallery, it’s more like a label. It has no permanent physical space to work with, events and exhibitions take place in temporary spaces. Black Market operates by curating group shows, moving in and through the art scene by popping up in conjunction with art fairs or big gallery opening weekends, adding and creating a parallel position at a time when a lot of people are on the move. It hooks into the energy of subcultural traditions and borrows from it’s Berlin roots by throwing big opening-parties for the exhibitions. Collaborating with established galleries and their artists, Black Market aims to display the cutting edge of contemporary art.
The motto of Black Market: Pleasure up. No more extended shows with expensive rent, few visitors and fierce boredom. Instead: turn up the volume, 48 hour intensified exhibition, both with the works and the music, too – and do not forget the drinks, the drinks served at specially made and tended bar.
